The title translates as “The Burst of the Gold Bubble – You must buy gold in 2012”.

A synopsis suggests that the author suggests before heading to 3,000 or 5,000 USD, gold will likely retrace 50% of the rally from 253.2 to the 1900 highs, e.g. to 1076 or thereabouts. By this time the author postulates, there will be a selling climax as the world cries “gold is done!”
The book was penned in 2011, so the author called it at least 1 year early, but it’s got my interest, especially after the big sell off. An earlier book of his was made a compelling case for gold as well.

Another book by JP Morgan strategist Tohru Sasaki that I read a while back also alluded in the final chapter to the gold market bull run being indicative of what people think about unorthodox central bank policies in recent times.

As you say we just have to avoid being early like I was last week 🙂

The more I think about the abuse that central banks are doing to the mkt with their printing methods, the more bullish I get. Once it bases (1250, 1000, 850 who knows) then we will get a generational chance to put on a big trade

I just dabbled into an XAU trade for the first time ever last week, going long against JPY. Could I have picked a worse time!? Fortunately I had only a small position and got out earlier in the week, and made back most of the loss shorting XAU/USD. But with all the Japanese money printing coming our way, I can’t help but want to be long gold.

Sean’s comments are fine, but as I see “I wish, it must, it should, why doesnt’ it” types of comments of some users, I need to think twice, three times.
Notwithstanding the FX market, I saw TV news that the public rushed to buy gold (as it became cheaper [discount season!!]). Then there must be something actually, really, very wrong. The public must (will, should?’) regret that decision for many years. I first thought that this move could be like the one in June 2006 or November 2008, (this could have been a nice long-time-frame correction), but as I see these comments and people’s movemenets, I totally doubt that there wil be a retracement of this move. It may go all the way down, to whererever, whether 1200 or 1000. In 1980’s, gold had seen moves from the top 800 $’s down to 250 $. Something similar should/would/must/ain’t not be a surprise::)) Otherwise, why wouldn’t gold miners, major suppliers, etc. immediately intervene, in order to prevent further losses?

Is it not time to buy the yen?

Sean, your instincts are right, these analysts are merely momo chasers. A really good analysis of gold and silver is here: http://thefundamentalview.blogspot.com.au/ He treats the market just like any other market and was predicting this fall based on chart action for months. He expects strong support at 1320 (which was hit) and a potential to go further down to around $1250.

I think they made their call last week. Why weren’t they bearish when gold was at 1700+? It seems to me when investment banks start issuing calls it is usually somewhere near a turn. I will never forget when the euro was at 1.20 area in 2010. Several well know banks and so called currency experts were yelling that parity was only a few months away. The euro bottomed that week. Amazing.
