I can see the future headline now ….Jordan – ” the franc is correcting from being excessively strong.” 20 big figs later. 🙂

Yeah, what I meant when I said real money flows was meant to be safe haven flows leaving Europe for Switzerland. So thanks for hitting on what I was trying to say and ask. I assume when a “search for yield” environment nears and more people realize Europe and the world aren’t coming to an end that all those safe haven flows will head back to Europe and the higher periphery bond yields and such rather than earning nothing (or possibly negative rates) in a Swiss bank account.
I’m thinking when the headlines coming out of Europe are better than they have been lately (like they were back in January) will that possibly jar those haven flows back to Europe and lead to significant EUR/CHF appreciation.

This is a very underground market so hard to guess as to how big it is. Prehaps that’s enough to offset all the EUR buying? Nevertheless, I still am convinced that something will happen soon to drive the safe-haven buyers out of CHF; the exit doors are always much narrower than the entry doors

Maybe Sean do you have some info related to real money volumes, could be the key? If there are guys who really buy eurchf, could be other guys who sell it, perhaps in much higher volumes?

I am curious about something and can’t seem to find or come up with a reasonable explanation….

Why is the euro and the swiss franc so intertwined at the moment in their exchange rates? I mean, I know the 1.20 floor is in place which limits its movement on the downside as it gets closer to the floor….but on days like yesterday with a strong euro rally across the board, EUR/CHF barely moved. And we saw this much of last year as well when it was tied down closer to 1.20 for many months. On strong EUR days, EUR/CHF went nowhere…literally.

But what keeps CHF from breaking free from EUR on strong trending days like yesterday? I mean…euro is strong, are there just so many traders out there who believe in the inverse correlation and think…”oh, EUR is strong, I’ll buy CHF (sell USD/CHF)”…and USD/CHF tanks…leaving EUR/CHF unchanged? So it becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy?

I am just trying to figure out why the EUR can be up strongly…….and CHF would rise right along with it….and smae thing when EUR is weak…CHF is weak right along with it. Why? Maybe there is just so much European real money wanting to buy CHF and selling into any EUR strong days?

I know Europe and Switzerland are close in proximity to each other, so perhaps the worldview is as one goes, so goes the other…still, you’d think there would be at least a bit more movement….

I’d very much like to understand the dynamic between these two currencies. Any light you can shed on it would be greatly appreciated.

The chf vs gold divergence is getting larger and chf will have to give way hopefully by the end of the week. Would it be possible for you to email me the password for the members section?
