Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) goes long AUD/NZD from current levels(1.2240), looking for a tactical rally back towards 1.2470, with a stop at 1.2140.

ANZ outlines 2 main reasons behind this call:

1. News that China destroyed NZ milk cargoes, although not unexpected nor unprecedented, will provide a psychological base in AUD/NZD and coalesce with fundamental factors to see the cross higher in coming weeks.

2. After several weeks of soggy price action, the cross is ripe for a correction, supported by what ANZ expects will be a re-assessment of the market’s monetary policy expectations.

“To be sure, we are not getting bearish on the NZD. Indeed, we fully expect the NZD to remain elevated. However, the time for a near-term correction has grown and the risk-reward to being long AUD/NZD is favourable,” ANZ concludes.
